International Builders’ Show 2026 Recap

Learning, Innovation, and Industry Momentum

Earlier this month, members of our leadership team — Lauren Hawley, VP of Sales and Marketing; Greg Wharton, VP of Architecture; and Kelly Douglas, Director of Procurement — attended the International Builders’ Show (IBS). It was an energizing, insight-packed week filled with learning, connection, and plenty of steps along the way.

IBS is one of the few events where the entire homebuilding ecosystem comes together in one place — builders, designers, vendors, technologists, and industry leaders. Being immersed in that environment created space for fresh ideas, valuable conversations, and a broader perspective on where the industry is headed.

The Power of Being in the Room

One of the most meaningful takeaways from the week was the impact of in-person connection. Conversations with builders from across the country — ranging from community and production builders to infill and national firms — sparked discussions around operations, strategy, and growth. Exploring how others approach industry challenges opened the door to new ways of thinking about our own processes.

Those conversations also led to the development of new strategic mastermind groups. The purpose is simple but powerful: learn from top performers, exchange insights, and stay ahead of industry shifts. Even though we primarily operate as an infill builder, there’s tremendous value in learning from community and plat builders, just as there are insights we can share in return. Being part of that broader dialogue strengthens our long-term perspective.

Technology Is Moving Quickly

Technology was another standout theme throughout the show. The team explored tools and platforms designed to reshape how builders approach land acquisition, customer experience, sales, and operational efficiency. It was clear that innovation is accelerating, and many of the solutions presented feel increasingly relevant to our business model.

Educational sessions spanned AI, sales strategy, marketing, architecture, and design, with AI-focused discussions drawing particular interest. Conversations around large language models and real-world workflow integration reinforced how quickly the industry is evolving — and how important it is to adapt thoughtfully and strategically.

Recognition on a National Stage

This year marks an exciting milestone for MN Custom Homes, with two projects named Silver Finalists for architectural excellence on a national stage in the Best Detached Home over 6,000 sq. ft. category. To be recognized alongside some of the most accomplished and innovative builders in the country is both humbling and deeply meaningful. This distinction celebrates not only the strength of these individual projects, but our unwavering commitment to thoughtful, design-driven architecture. The recognition energizes our team and reinforces our passion for continually elevating the craft that defines MN Custom Homes.

While we did not take home the final award, two of our homes were recognized as Silver Finalists for architectural excellence. Being acknowledged on a national stage alongside such strong competition is a meaningful accomplishment and reinforces our commitment to design-driven work. It also highlights an opportunity to continue leaning into recognition for the thoughtful architecture that defines our homes.

Recognition on a National Stage

IBS was an intensive, full-spectrum experience and an invaluable catalyst for how we build. Next year’s show will move to Las Vegas, which should simplify logistics and create opportunities to be even more intentional about attendance and session focus.

Overall, the week reinforced a simple but important idea: staying connected, staying curious, and staying proactive are essential in an industry that continues to evolve rapidly. Events like IBS don’t just showcase where homebuilding is today — they offer a glimpse into what’s next.
